I suppose this blog is dead. Too bad. I have over 400 posts dating back to my senior year in college. What started out as an outlet for me to speak my thoughts past my inner circle of friends, with whom I was particularly disgrunteld with at the time, to a place for me to shine through graduation, grad school, and ultimately married life and fatherhood. Of course, it is the latter phase of life that has me most busy and, now that we are expecting #2, I can only expect life to get even more busy. But great, definitely great.
So if you come across this space, thanks for visiting. I would like to hear from you, it is e j s c h r o @ h o t m a i l d o t you know what else. Maybe I'll bring this back if internet use becomes routine.
Yes it has been too long. Here's what's been going on: Baby is set to arrive next month sometime. Our birth classes are all finished...now its time to think about parenting. Who ever thought I'd write that while still 24 years old?
We moved to northern Cincy to a baby-friendly apartment. We have a pool and have entertained more guests in the last month than the entire last year combined. That's what a pool will do for you!
Each weekend is spent at a different place: Cincinnati, Dayton, Bowling Green, Athens. We are trying to get some travelling in before the baby comes, unfortunately its all be in Ohio.
That's about all I can stand to write now. Impersonal is bad, personal is good. So try me on email - ejschro at gmail dot com.
We almost bought a house this month, but decided to move to a different apartment instead.
We're almost finished with our birth classes already, and one of our number has already had their baby! But we still have 2 1/2 months to go or so (maybe 3?).
We also got rid of a car and bought a new one.
We have been day tripping a lot on the weekends. This week: to BG!
So that's all for now. I'd like to update this more with thoughts about being a dad...so lets hope I follow through on my word.
Well its been a darn long time. Mini life update here...
Yes, Jenna and I are pregnant. Well, she's the prego one, I'm the "coach" as our labor class calls me. We're right around 5 months, which means that we just had our ultrasound! You can check it out here. She can feel the baby kick and she's really starting to show. Its a wonderful time of life.
I'm training for a 1/2 marathon in Indy with Justin Schu. So that gives me an excuse to run during the gorgeous spring days like today.
We are trying to travel a lot while (a) Jenna feels good, and (b) before the baby comes. So the past few weeks we've left our humble abode in Cincy for weekend trips in St. Louis, Dayton, Columbus, and BG. Just kidding, not BG yet. My wife is on the beach right now soaking up some sun on her pregnant belly. And I'm working. She's on spring break from dance teaching. There you go.
Friday. I just ran 7 miles in a little over 54 minutes, my best long run of the season. Justin Schu and I are training for a 1/2 marathon, and this phase is building endurance/working the lactate threshold. Its amazing today, 50s and sunny.
Jenna's starting to show a bit now, to my eyes at least, which is truly amazing. I can't believe we're pregnant. Its actually happening. Its amazing.
Justin, Wicked is huge here and everyone's talking about it.
Well, not everyone. Not everyone at work. They don't talk about much, and in fact I'm not sure they really do much outside of work. Some things here and there. They're good guys. They don't watch sports. They don't know basketball, football, or baseball. They don't run and pretty much are quiet. It makes me so happy to go home sometimes.
A weekend in Cincy...our first in January. Hopefully filled with Smallville and sunny skies.
the break in the last month was purposeful in that i wanted to see people face-to-face over the holidays rather than communicating via blog. i'm not usually that snooty, but its because i have some very important news to share. if your eyes haven't already darted to this line, then read on: WE'RE EXPECTING...A BABY...IN AUGUST 2006! that's right, your eyes did not deceive you...on our 6 month wedding anniversary, Jenna found out! we've had to be secretive for a few weeks, but finally the dam burst over the holidays and we told everyone we could find. we held our tongues so as word wouldn't get to our parents before we saw them on christmas. here is one of the scenarios i envisioned: me posting it on the blog, justin reading the blog, justin telling his dad, his dad seeing my dad on campus, boom. or, i tell keith konya our neighbor, he tells mike on IM, mike writes it down on a piece of paper and forgets about it, throws it away when he's cleaning his room, but at the curbside the trashbag breaks open and a bird uses the paper for its nest at my parents' house, where it conveniently falls onto the newspaper in front of our house and my parents read it. so you get the point.
anyway, we are 8 1/2 weeks along right now...the midwife said everything is progressing well. jenna is a bit nauseous and more tired than usual, but we are told that this is normal. erica konya has been a huge help down the street from us, we are blessed to live be such great neighbors.
for me, life is going on as usual. which looks like this: i'm training for the indianapolis mini marathon (13.1 miles) so i'm out on the road several days a week struggling through january. my job has been off and on slow, so some days its a chore to get by, and other days it goes by really fast. i'm writing a journal article on my research at maryland. we're watching smallville every night on dvd because we (a) don't have cable, (b) happen to have the first 4 seasons on dvd from the campbell's. its not bad except for the awesome theme song.
i read moneyball, a fascinating book on baseball and the oakland a's. have you read it justin? its worth your time, i bet your dad would like it too. i'm also reading about phi, the golden ratio, in a nerdy math book that i asked for for chrismas. and a couple of pregnancy/expecting books. because i have no clue!
i've also started playing in our church worship band, which has been a fantastic experience. there are some good people there.
some people have asked me, 'do you miss maryland?' and i have mixed feelings. on one hand, i LOVED maryland because it was so different than ohio. i loved going to basketball games (you probably couldn't stand reading about them), i really enjoyed some friends at the rotorcraft center, and really enjoyed being 22-23 years old and on my own, living in a cool city and making friends. of course, the whole picture wasn't rosy, as my classes were hard, sometimes my research didn't have much direction, and i was poor and away from my family.
so do i miss maryland? well, let me put it this way. tomorrow night at 9pm i'm going to be at bw-3's (with Jenna, of course) wearing a bright Maryland shirt and yelling at the refs on TV to stop giving Duke all the calls. that's not nearly as strong of an example as i had wanted to give, but yes, i do miss it.
i'll miss the vid blogs for sure justin, but not the loading time.
