so the terps lost (sorry fertel). i had a seat on the floor with robin and joe, the arena was rockin' but unfortunately maryland played mediocre, certainly not well enough to beat the #1 team in the nation, and i would also like to say that i hate j.j. redick. best sign in the crowd: "hey j.j.! i NAILED your sister"
but it was okay anyway, because joe made the trip up from va. beach and so we ate some dinner with robin and had a beer or two, the standard catch-up setting. and his wife made us cookies.
tomorrow i'm heading to connecticut to visit ashley & michelle, and of course jenna's coming along so we're in for a fun weekend. we may chill in nyc or boston on saturday, it depends how wicked cold it is and if any snow is thrown our way.
i ate lunch with the professor i TA'd for last semester. of course i had the crab cakes (thats twice this week). i'm such an idealist, because here i am, sitting across from one of the most established and respected aerospace engineers from the US and we're talking about all the places we've been. i'm like a little kid with my grandfather. "so what's your favorite place you've lived?" i ask. he answers, "ohhh, now there's a question." and begins a story of everywhere he's been (he's nearly 80, so that's pretty much everywhere) and what he's done. we're talking belgium, france, california, new york, dc, dayton, you name it. go ahead, google "korkegi" and you'll see what i'm talking about. anyway, after eating lunch with him i want to travel, get my ph.d., change the world a hundred times over and live in europe. the best part was that as i left his office this afternoon, he says, "eric, if there's anything you need me to do, and i don't know what that would even be, but let me know." all i did was grade his homeworks for 15 weeks.
sorry thats so long, i get excited when i talk with people who do what they want to do, using their mind and their talents to succeed in everything they try. because thats what i want to do, thats what the edwards' want to do, and thats the way it ought to be, i think.
back to reality though. so anyway you'll hear from me again sometime next week. as for now, i will quit blogging on this unix box, drive up to baltimore to stay with jenna tonight, and then leave early tomorrow for the briskness that is new england.
go pats, and go kerry. well maybe, i'm not sure yet, but at least gephardt is out of the race.

well jenna made it down here in one piece, though her belongings didn't. the truck towing the trailer broke down in ohio (a melted piston! sheesh!), so jenna stayed with me for a few days until it got here. because by the time her family rented a car, it was snowing and icing like crazy so the 7-hour trip turned into a 12-hour trip! but her dad and brother did make it okay by sunday morning, and, a full day and some crab cakes later, jenna has an apartment!
so now its back to the lands of research where i've made a little progress on my work, but not much. i'm learning a new programming language without a book (only the web as a reference) so its slow going.
in the meantime though there are many things to be excited about, including a big basketball game tomorrow night, when #1 duke comes to town. people here hate duke more than anyone has every hated a team, i think. i see shirts that say, "f*ck duke" and on the back "and saddam" or "and bin laden." yeah, its intense. its on espn again, so look for me!
and matt, did you know i ran that same san diego half-marathon last year? kinda weird.
justin & mike, i can't wait to hear what comes out of logic, it sounds sweet and has lots of potential, just like clemens signing with the astros. and how about the orioles making some off-season moves? they can't contend with the yanks or the bosox yet but maybe they can get into a close third.
