the break in the last month was purposeful in that i wanted to see people face-to-face over the holidays rather than communicating via blog. i'm not usually that snooty, but its because i have some very important news to share. if your eyes haven't already darted to this line, then read on: WE'RE EXPECTING...A BABY...IN AUGUST 2006! that's right, your eyes did not deceive you...on our 6 month wedding anniversary, Jenna found out! we've had to be secretive for a few weeks, but finally the dam burst over the holidays and we told everyone we could find. we held our tongues so as word wouldn't get to our parents before we saw them on christmas. here is one of the scenarios i envisioned: me posting it on the blog, justin reading the blog, justin telling his dad, his dad seeing my dad on campus, boom. or, i tell keith konya our neighbor, he tells mike on IM, mike writes it down on a piece of paper and forgets about it, throws it away when he's cleaning his room, but at the curbside the trashbag breaks open and a bird uses the paper for its nest at my parents' house, where it conveniently falls onto the newspaper in front of our house and my parents read it. so you get the point.

anyway, we are 8 1/2 weeks along right now...the midwife said everything is progressing well. jenna is a bit nauseous and more tired than usual, but we are told that this is normal. erica konya has been a huge help down the street from us, we are blessed to live be such great neighbors.

for me, life is going on as usual. which looks like this: i'm training for the indianapolis mini marathon (13.1 miles) so i'm out on the road several days a week struggling through january. my job has been off and on slow, so some days its a chore to get by, and other days it goes by really fast. i'm writing a journal article on my research at maryland. we're watching smallville every night on dvd because we (a) don't have cable, (b) happen to have the first 4 seasons on dvd from the campbell's. its not bad except for the awesome theme song.

i read moneyball, a fascinating book on baseball and the oakland a's. have you read it justin? its worth your time, i bet your dad would like it too. i'm also reading about phi, the golden ratio, in a nerdy math book that i asked for for chrismas. and a couple of pregnancy/expecting books. because i have no clue!

i've also started playing in our church worship band, which has been a fantastic experience. there are some good people there.

some people have asked me, 'do you miss maryland?' and i have mixed feelings. on one hand, i LOVED maryland because it was so different than ohio. i loved going to basketball games (you probably couldn't stand reading about them), i really enjoyed some friends at the rotorcraft center, and really enjoyed being 22-23 years old and on my own, living in a cool city and making friends. of course, the whole picture wasn't rosy, as my classes were hard, sometimes my research didn't have much direction, and i was poor and away from my family.

so do i miss maryland? well, let me put it this way. tomorrow night at 9pm i'm going to be at bw-3's (with Jenna, of course) wearing a bright Maryland shirt and yelling at the refs on TV to stop giving Duke all the calls. that's not nearly as strong of an example as i had wanted to give, but yes, i do miss it.

i'll miss the vid blogs for sure justin, but not the loading time.
