i drove to detroit with my mom to pick up jeff and kathleen at the butt-crack of dawn. actually, before the butt-crack. who ever had any idea how many truckers were out at 5am?
so our little family reunion was quite nice. we ate lunch at junction, sans tim who unfortunately had to head to school after a 2 hour delay. i threw the bee around with jeff a bit, then relived some childhood by playing basketball with skilly and alicia. of course, jeff was 3-0, and he beat me in horse, but what can you do? rebound over him, i guess.
they vacationers were pretty tired so they took a nap while i returned to the apt to try and study. first i headed to the library though...and let me ask you this: what kind of a university that wants to be considered a "premier university in ohio and in the nation" doesn't have its library open past 6pm? i know its fall break and all, but c'mon! even during the regular school week, the library is only open until midnight! my road trip this summer with tim took us to many a university that had 24 hour libraries. (and not only that, but the rock wall was closed on wednesday at 6pm. i mean, school was still in session at that time. sheesh, give me a break!)
ben, jenny, and bert stopped by tonight and it was cool chillin and talkin about some old hs stories. tomorrow we're gonna try to get the usual crowd together and hang out. my relatives are also gonna be coming up to visit the hales, so it looks like tomorrow will be a busy day. but its gonna be a blast.

thumbs up: jeff & kathleen
thumbs down: being tired, and losing to jeff in basketball
quote: "this kid named ***** once was taking a shower after practice, crapped in his hand, and threw it at *****. i was laughing so hard i almost peed my pants, but i didn't because i was also showering and i don't wear pants when i do that" - bert, exaggerated by schriz
so pinewood finally played some music, and that was cool. we talked a lot about the upcoming months and if and how much we want to keep pushing the band. we're lining up a recording, although the shows we have are few and far between. it was a frustrating talk...realizing how much time we've put into the band and how little it seems we've come. and we're still a bit un-unified which stinks too. but with some help and determination, we should be playing at a venue near you in the upcoming month.
on the bright side though, we all hung out tonight and had a good time.
and tomorrow, i get to wake up at 4:45am and drive to the airport to visit jeff and kathleen. i can't wait to see them! hopefully i'll get to spend some time with them this weekend, despite the wedding they are attending.

i got a chance to see my family today for the first time in about a month it seems. which sounds strange, considering i live about a mile from home and my dad works about 100 yards from the math building. so what was the occasion, you ask? my mom turned 50 today! how crazy is that! she said that all of the people she teaches wore clothes from the 50s to school, and her students made her tell stories about "the old days." and through it all, my mom is still one of the coolest people i know.
if you've never seen it before, go to justin's chicken bone website using the link on the left. i think he's going to be famous quite shortly.
i caught part of the twins game last night while chillin with the roomies at B-Ws, and for all of you who say that baseball isn't what it used to be, look at the twins! a team comprised of players who are all good in their own right, without the big payroll guy. also, refer to anaheim and the a's. my friends, baseball is back! (if it hasn't been done already, i bet the cover of ESPN or SI will say "how the twins saved baseball" or something cheesy like that).
oh yeah, and if you haven't yet, check out andrew tenbrink's blog too. he camped out on purdue's campus last week without a tent, just for fun. this guy is cool.
here's a question: would you be a hippie if you lived in the 60s-70s? would you be a beatnik if you lived in the 50-s-60s? i'd probably say 'no' to the former, and 'yes' to the later. the beats were way cool.

thumbs up: my mom (happy birthday)
thumbs down: people who say "run, forrest, run" hmmmm...i've not heard that one before. where did you come up with such a clever saying? if clever=unoriginal.

i don't think fall break is worth the hype. since i went to the fall getaway (which i totally do not regret, i would talk more about it but it was like 3 days ago and i can't remember all that happened) i didn't get a chance to prepare for the mounds of crap (aka homework) that was due this week. the school week before fall break is only 3 days long but for some reason my professors put 5 days of work into them. so, a test, an essay, and lots of homework later...i'm ready to greet fall break with open arms.
i know i've written a lot about friends last week, and let me say that things are patched up pretty good. i initiated some conversations about friendship with a few people, and they went really well. i dunno. maybe i just had a bad month or something. i was tired of giving myself to people who didn't look like they cared that much. but now i'm happy to say that the friendships are back in full effect. thanks to two people; i've already told them so.
i can't wait for this break so i can take some time and clean up after myself, geesh, i have clothes in like 5 different rooms just laying on the floor, & dirty dishes in a few more. plus, my bro and sister in law will be in town this weekend from the desert-y arizona, i'm so excited to see them.
mackenzi from class asked me if i was an emo-kid. how funny is that? (i think if it was the green jacket that threw her off)
justin, keep breakin' stones.

thumbs up: ultimate frisbee team, 4-0, an undefeated [regular] season
thumbs down: advanced calculus, and a softball loss (even though it felt like we played good)
