more pinewood recording. brett and jesse are troopers, they've many hours beyond me to make sure everything's perfect, i'm excited to hear the finished product in a few weeks. we're gonna put the mp3s up on a new website soon. we're about finished with 'ivy league,' which is probably the simplest song, we've spent about 9 hours on it so far.

kathy, if you could pass this on to mark: what if there are three toilets (one of which is lower) and one stall, the stall is occupied, as are the two regular size johns. what do you do in this situation? use the lower toilet, or wait around for an opening? i try to avoid the low toilet at all costs, especially if i have to bend my knees to use it. i'd wait. but i'll respect a man that does his business, no matter what the cost.

a dream deferred. thanks for the encouragement, justin. "God didn't go to school. He created stuff." that puts things into a perspective a bit.

so much work to do for all my classes, work, grad school, but i just can't do it right now. i have the motivation, but not the willpower. i have 1 1/2 hours before class, and all i'm going to do is walk around campus and think and put academics off until the weekend. not that i've much important to think about, quite the contrary, i'm giving importance to things that don't deserve it.

i wrote down the goals i'd like to accomplish for this long weekend-mostly dealing with school and grad school. i told myself that if I did ALL of them (which never happens) i'm gonna buy a boss dr-707 drum machine, to keep my school vs. creativity balanced. i'm inspired.

dang it, whenever i do something fun, i pay the price for school and work. for as fun as tonight should have been, i had school, work, and a stinkin' girl to wrap up my thoughts in and make my evening feel like a loss. in the midst i had a skyline chat with ray that will go down in the books as one of the best 10pm dinners i've ever had, but it's still overshadowed by the giant voice inside my giant head that weighs the 'opportunity cost' of every action i take...i want to live for the moment sometime and not have to think about resposibilities and, well, a lot of the things i keep in my daily routine. i sound and feel like a 'square' as phil would say. who wants aerospace when you can create music?

yeah, apartment Q4 danced to n sync tonight. Q4: making a legacy. no, we were not wearing shirts.

jeff and kathleen gave me some good pointers on my statement of purpose, so that will take a few more revisions before it's set to be sent. it was good to catch up. they want to have me out to san diego to run a half-marathon with them this coming january. how cool would that be?! i'm appling to the university of california-san diego, so it would be a great opportunity to see the campus. plus, i'd be out in cali with my bro! i'm gonna check out plane ticket prices tomorrow!

a cranky tuesday. i was able to put some good time in at work and for school - my statement of purpose is nearly finished, i think. i'll send it off to the sister in law a bit later, she's good at reviewing that sort of thing.

i only saw one of my roommates today. i live with four other guys. since we're so busy we're gonna do some 'roommate bonding night' at varsity lanes: 6 bucks, all you can bowl + some pizza. it's a steal.

you know who's a strange breed on campus? the fake-study-people-watchers. they live in the 7th floor of the library. the mounds of books are just a cover. they sit down, open their backpacks, get out a few books, but instead of reading, they watch people for about an hour, then pack up their books and leave. i think about 50% of the 7th floor studiers are really faking it. why scope people out late at night in the elevations of the library? it beats me. so look, if you're one of those people, i'm on to you, so why don't you just keep the books at home next time and free up some tables for everyone else. i mean, if it's not packed, then scope all you want. heck, i stared out the window this afternoon for a good half hour. but that was because i was daydreaming, not looking for a date!

next week i'll discuss the rare "parking lot vultures" as an on-going series of strange breeds of people at bgsu.

so i must have been very tired, because i woke up at 12:15. i needed the sleep. it's good every once in a while, i'm kind of afraid of getting worn down and contracting mono or something, that would suck.

it's interesting to see how much we try to control our lives - little events or conversations or relationships. funny how nothing ever turns out the way we think it will. naturally i have an example in mind, but i won't post it here.

new u2 cd set- best of 1990-2000, with a couple new songs. i love u2. and you too.

pat is the smoothest guy around. he cares a lot.

i registered for the last classes i'll ever take at bgsu. pretty exciting, a touch sad, but not very much. i got some picts of the U. to remember it by - those ones i took a few posts ago. there's a few good ones in there, maybe i'll buy a scanner so you can enjoy them too.

my english prof said a few interesting things today. paraphrased: "the reason that everyone drinks and gets drunk is for that few hours of illumination. it's so spiritual that everyone craves it and wants to stay in that state of mind. drugs, too. it messes up time, and the length of illumination." at least when he said it, it made a lot of sense as to why people try to stay in that state of mind. a student spoke up and concurred- he spent 7 years in drugs & alcohol, 3 years clean, and completely agreed. a very interesting discussion.

pinewood is back. brett is back too. coincidence? jesse and i are lookin to put some tracks down later this week. all of the sudden we're way pumped about music again. suddenly i can't put down a guitar or piano or anything. it's so exciting to be creative again.

and when creativity comes in the door, discipline goes out. but what can you do?

with creativity also comes emotion, and that's something i haven't experienced in quite a few weeks. i've almost removed that part of me to make way for the discipline that school demands. which is better? which is really living? making music and staying out late, or working hard and taking pride in my work?

in the same vein, why do i give so much attention & space in my head to girls? because right now, they're not worth it.

we almost blew up pumpkins in a flaming ball of orange gooey-ness and pumpkin seeds. but instead we found that the inside of a pumpkin is very absorbent of flammable liquids. kids, don't try this at home.

the wbgu radio guy today seemed to agree with complaints that the team's been playing close games and they're overrated, etc. so the falcons won a game in overtime, they beat a couple good MAC teams by a few points. BUT they still WON. you can't be 8-0 in the MAC and playing two big 12 schools and not be good! bg averages 496 yards/game and almost 50 points a contest! a good team can beat another good team by a few points without affecting their poll position or anything. i mean, look at ohio state, they beat a very good penn state team 13-7 without they're star running back. the bucks get hammered for not winning big enough, but dang it, penn state is a good team and a win is a win! don't be afraid to give winning football teams some credit once in a while.

enough of that crap.

i like tim's philosophy: do lots of things while you're young because you may not get another chance. he joined the swim team because he wanted to learn how to swim fast and he thought it would be a fun time, while gaining an invaluable skill. attaboy.
