today was exciting.

after speaking with a maryland professor for nearly 30 minutes (can't wait to see the cell phone bill), i wrote an email to the graduate school dean at ohio state asking for a written release from my fellowship agreement. i do not perceive this will be hard to get. as soon as i have the document in possession, i can officially tell maryland, YES!, i will go to your school. from the people i've talked to, its awesome there.

other excitement included making a few new friends (kind of late at this stage of the college career) of the female persuasion. but though i have a great time talking to people, especially at parties, i often come home feeling let down. maybe its knowing that i have no business forging a friendship with them because, as a guy, its hard to have girl-friends who you don't want to be girlfriends. and while always trying to keep lines distinct and easy to stay far from, it's still some mental anguish because, duh, guys and girls are MADE for each other and thats a major reason how we can be happy in this life. those feelings are often hard to keep in check. i don't see myself with many of the girls i talk to, which thankfully keeps me sane and from being an emokid all the time. i also keep myself from a lot of girls because i absolutely don't want to ever lead a girl on. its happened to me before and its one of the worst feelings in the world, liking someone and they don't like you back. that's why i usually refrain.

i made my annual trek to hunan buffet with my parents today, and it was great. i think they realize that i'm going to maryland now, and will accept my decision for what it is. my mom says (bless her heart) that it will be even harder watching the second son leave town to pursue interests hundreds of miles away. i'd love to stay and be with my family, but i know they want me to follow my dreams, even if it is in maryland. i'll miss playing friz golf with tim, for sure (that's why we're going a ton this summer!).

pray for brad; he had an emergency appendectomy last night at 2am. i saw him today in the hospital and he's doing ok, really sore but ok. thank God.

whew, that was a post.

thumbs up: maryland. and feeling like the ladies want me as a friend
thumbs down: but not wanting me as that type of a friend. its been a long time. it'd be nice sometime. not all the time though, i think i'm a bit more independent that that.

today was my honors project presentation, i talked for three minutes and i think it went well. my title, "non-relativistic shock propagation through linearly-defined densities" probably made some people go "hmmmm" but my nifty plots and animations won everyone over, i think. i made some good eye contact and i think i kept everyone's attention.

you want to see the presentation? go here. maybe i'll narrate it for you sometime. the "animations" page is the coolest, but it takes a while to load.

and i met a very cool person there who presented a good project. maybe more on that later.

i turned in my second draft of the project to my professor, and i worked on my other project a little bit. that's all i have left for this year.

patrick turned 21 today. tonight was hilarious.

after another grueling session in the computer lab, this time taking over five computers at the same time, my presentation is *almost* finished. tomorrow's the day when all the kids doing honors projects present them to our peers, advisors, parents, faculty, even the deans and sidney ribeau are invited! i'll be presenting around 4pm but i don't know the specific time. its only a few minutes long, so it should be fun. i'll post my presentation here once its finished.

we kept on mixing the pinewood cd tonight. it'll be done by thursday. all done.

i took a math test today, and i did ok. i only needed a 55% or so to get an 'a' on the exam, so didn't study much. i didn't get more than a 70 but i know i got what i needed - it just makes me feel horrible because i actually failed it, but i'll get an 'a' in the class.

then i got my first draft of my paper (coinciding with my honors project, due mon.) and there was more red than black on it, my professor had so many corrections. i got most of them taken care of, and hopefully i'll have the next draft finished tomorrow morning. just two projects to go, and i'll be finished with the undergrad.

i also spoke with a maryland professor today, that dept. still looks awesome.

i'm moving ever-closer to being finished with EVERYTHING. today i knocked off my honors project presentation, and i'll be working on my second draft of my paper tomorrow. my final test in probablility is tomorrow, i've barely studied, and then my project for analysis is moving along too. i can almost taste it.

i drove around in a non-emo mood today, and happened upon a cemetery way out in the country. which gets me thinking, if you want to be sure of how temperate this life on earth is, if you want to see how short our lifespans are, visit a random cemetery. because you've never heard of anyone buried there. it makes you wonder if any of them are remembered by anyone. i hope so.

check out apple's new ipod and other cool stuff.

i spoke with a maryland professor today, and will speak with another one tomorrow. things are looking good for that U. ohio state, with its great offer and great football team, is fading fast. the maryland aerospace dept. is ranked #10 in the nation. not too shabby.

ah warm summer nights spent studying.

more blogging from the computer lab. i'm typing this on my ibook, with a G4 tower on my left working on one of my programs (for the last 24 minutes) and a G4 tower on my right working on a different program. things are taking a long time, but are looking good at least.

i managed to see as many people as i could today while maximizing my time spent on homework by taking my run to the outdoor courts to see skilly and fulch, then over to michelle robinson's going away party. unfortunately i couldn't stay long at either of them, so i made my appearance, then left. but wasn't the weather great?

tomorrow i'm supposed to talk with the maryland professor. hopefully i'll have a lot of questions answered, and a decision in place.

you know what's fun? dunking on an 8-foot rim. i wonder if thats what jordan and kobe feel like in real life. you know, when you have to be careful not to hit your head on the rim.

i'd love to stay and chat about more mindless junk but i'm gonna study for another class. that's multi-tasking, kids. three homework assignments at the same time!

i have not seen ben in my apartment for more than 30 seconds in the last two weeks. he is my roommate.

i called osu and it looks like i can get out of my fellowship agreement if i choose to do so. i also contacted maryland and will have a phone interview with the chair of the department on monday. now some thinking, some praying. thanks for your support, friends.

i worked my tail off friday and today on my projects, and they're coming along, although i still have a ways to go. i really want to push hard this week, and then next week will be 100% relaxing. tomorrow i'd still like to get a basketball game and a nice run in, but who knows if that will fit around my overflowing schedule. its kind of exciting, kind of sucking to be so busy.

kelly day just finished some recording on our cd, she sounds great. jesse's looking to finish up the vocals tonight, and then i'll have some songs for you to listen to. its about time.

friday night alive was cool last night, the covenant youth group has some major talent, and then the road rally/scavenger hunt was pretty boring, mostly because it was over when we got there and all we saw were pictures (and some dead roadkill. i mean, what roadkill isn't dead? look at the name, for crying out loud).

and a mean barbecue today, wish some wash and some hawks' blood.
