i was hoping that since the backpacking trip was kind of rough for the youth group (because the guides were dumb) that maybe everyone would appreciate and respect jesse and justin and tim and i for doing it a lot. here is my expected conversation:
"wow, backpacking is really hard, i have so much more respect for you and i'm sorry that i made fun of you all those years."
but instead this is what i got from genson:
"wow, backpacking is really hard, i can't believe you and jesse like doing it, you guys are bricks."
yeah, backpacking is really hard, hopefully you got some good views and had some good times. i've had a bricks backpacking trip, too.
so jenna and i have been hanging out a lot and we stay up late and have a good time but unfortunately i have to get up and run pointless errands so my sleep cycle is starting to look edwards-esque, texas style.
trip #5 has come and gone, this time taking me to the likes of new haven, connecticut. my good friend ashley is going to graduate school at yale, so i helped move he and his wife michelle in with the help of michelle's brother jim. their apartment/condo sits a stone's throw away from an ocean inlet, so we spent some time saltwater fishing with freshwater bait, and all we caught was pollution.
the yale campus is incredible, everything you think it would be, plus lots more - hopefully i'll have some pictures up soon. it makes me wonder, 'why did i spend all of my time at BGSU when i could have gone some place like this?' loans are one thing, having an experience is another. take this summer, for instance. i have no money (i just closed my savings account) and will soon take out a loan. but i've traveled more than i ever have, seen both oceans and the mountains in between, seen family and friends live in new and exciting places, and i have loved every step of the way. no work, no job, no money, but a wonderful summer-ful of memories.
that said, i also like to learn and am planning on the next two years to be filled with very intense study and little time for play. i've worked my butt off for four years and it was very nice to have a summer to enjoy life, something i've missed out on a lot i think.
but i'm ready to go back to school now, and ready for the next challenge. so to those high school juniors and seniors who come across these words, i say: do something great, somewhere great. stay close with friends and family but know that you have your life, they have theirs. do something that takes courage because there you'll find the most reward.
**end advice**
its not like me to spew that out ('right,' tim says), so i'll stop writing any more.
