i might as well worn you to take off all the bad things that you wrote about jenna on your blog because i just gave her my address, and since i'm linked to a lot of BG people in the youth group and whatnot, she'll probably wander over to your page. especially you, justin.

thankfully the weekend is here because i almost ran out of stuff to do today. wait a minute, i have nothing to do on ANY day of the week but read and talk to people on the phone. its so weird to go through a whole day and not talk to one person you know, face-to-face until a roommate comes home around 7pm. sometimes you just need to escape from all your thoughts. i do appreciate the relaxation, though.

tomorrow i'm helping some guys paint their apartment from the maryland church i went to last week. lets hear it for somewhat-familiar faces.

finally, i'm registered and have an ID card (that i desperately would like to scan because my picture is brutal) and a new email address - i'll send out a mass email with it soon. tomorrow is new graduate student orientation (with refreshments) so that's that. then a long weekend to do more of nothing, because i've done nothing, really, since may.

i'm sure some of you noticed (fertel probably?) that the terrapins lost in their football opener to none other than MAC school northern illinois, who beat BGSU last year. they're good, though i'm not sure about maryland yet. sure they're #13 but coming from ohio and rooting for the bucks all my life, i'm not yet impressed. speaking of the falcons, i heard they spanked some team 49-7 or something. hopefully they've expanded their playbook past six plays this year with the new coach and all.

this may border on being a really stupid story, but when i washed my new bedsheets and put them on for the first time, i realized they're "full" size and not twin. meaning i have lots of extra sheet. at first i thought this was bad, but then i realized, "who doesn't want extra sheet on their bed?" frankly, i'm always running out of sheet and would like a little more to roll around in. try it. it'll revolutionize the way you sleep.

and the oversize sheet smells good, too.

i made it to another church thingie with one of my first friends, a guy named jeremy. it was this monster church in virginia that seems similar to cornerstone and liked the word "corporate." more than anything, it was cool to talk to a christian about whatever it was we talked about. i'm starting to feel comfortable here.

one of the things i took from the message was this: tell me what the difference is between these two lines.

you are God
you alone are God

its easy to say the first, but the whole "alone" thing is much harder. as in, i am not God, i am not a god of my life, or your life, because it is Christ who lives in me. think about it.

i actually registered for classes today, though not the right ones because i need the department to sign me in. but how scary is it to sign up for 600-level courses? marr, isn't it crazy? though you probably took some 700-level ones too.

i guess there's lots of power out from the storms yesterday and today. and andrew, when its not raining, its 90 degrees and 70% humidity. i need a shower after biking a mile to campus, its sick.

and while we're on the subject of andrew, how about you get your internet fixed? because your AOL keeps kicking you off and you don't get any IMs, or maybe you don't reply to them, either way, what's up now what's up now?

and justin, i'm making you into a legend over here.

marr, that rules you've been to georgetown, i just can't believe you bought jordan shorts there. didn't he have the winning shot as a freshman for UNC in the NCAA tournament against the georgetown bulldogs? and patrick ewing was on their team, and he might possibly be the missing link. he's cro-magnon man i think.

i got caught riding my bike home from campus in a huge thunderstorm that took down a few trees (not like the one in BG that almost hit the mini) but, i was absolutely soaked by the time i got home. like, i could wring out my undies. i was that wet. it was ok because it was a warm summer rain though and i just hopped in the shower.

my roommates are watching boogie nights for the second night in a row and i'm declining to watch. i really want to catch the orioles game because its 1-1 in the bottom of the 9th but i'll let them watch their crappy almost-porn movie.

campus is starting to fill up over here, and it looks like i'll be doing some orienting later this week. maryland, i found out, has 31,000 students (grad + undergrad) so we're looking at about 2x BGSU. plus a top 10 basketball team, top 20 football team, #1 soccer team and top 5 lacrosse team. i hope to check out lots of games this year.

i ordered a "learning new testament greek" book today from amazon, because i've been told that a lot of meaning is lost in translating from greek to english. for instance, greek word order does not matter, and english obviously does, so is it significant that things are listed in a certain way? take second peter, 1:5. "for this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, persevereance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness, love." so if there is no order in greek, why are they ordered this way in english? why is the progression goodness->knowledge->self-control...etc.? anyway, i think it will be interesting and hopefully lead to a deeper knowledge of the original writings, of which i know virtually nothing right now.

lets hope i can get up tomorrow and run. its just way too humid at 7pm these days.

sorry kelly, i know its been awhile. but i actually had a visitor this weekend, that visitor being jenna! we spent most of our time in DC at museums or checking out the memorials, visiting georgetown (way cooler than ann arbor, even) and did some reading under big trees on campus. it was so great to see her - not only her, but just someone i actually know. it was hard to say goodbye, again, but she's got haiti and i've got maryland, so we know our work is cut out for us.

if you haven't made your way over to andrew's page in a while, check it out.

maybe a mac user will find this cool: to check peoples' blogs, i go to the bookmark bar and open all of them in tabs, at once, then switch between to read them. so dang easy, and of course it was apples idea. congrats on the G5, justin. how many displays did you get?

mike wrote an excellent entry the other day, so do him favor and read it and reply to him. i think a lot of us from covenant church are stuck in the same boat.

finally, i think all the roommates are home (there are six of us) so i'm gonna do some chillin.
