this week's score: life: 12 eric: 5

red sox game. it doesn't get much better than yankees-red sox, pedro-rocket, extra innings-game 7. it doesn't get much more heartbreaking, either.

i think the alcs and nlcs are much more exciting than the world series. where else do you have rivalries like the red sox-yankees, or san fran-los angeles, rivalries with history and curses and whoever. curse of the bambino? i'm a believer. pedro in the 8th with a three run lead? the cubs? up 3-0 with prior on the mound in the 8th? and lose, 8-3, and the next game lose a lead? that's baseball.

so the life-eric score: let's recap. so yes, i'm a graduate student, and yes, i only take three classes a semester max. but those are three really hard classes.

so i did homework for all three this week. i probably spent 6-7 hours on each one. for example, my wednesday was spent entirely inside from 9:30am-1am, save for mile repeats on the track and aletheia (gk. for truth) in the chapel, and i got three problems done in that time. that's it.

i turned two homeworks in on tuesday, and got them back today with pretty poor marks. i can re-work the problems, which i've already started to do, but its such a chore. i mean, how do you like doing the same homework twice? so i was really frustrated today, along with robin, because we put a lot of effort into these assignments and we have nothing to show for it. unlike you, mike. i think i envy the undergrad lifestyle, not as much pressure...

so we have to work smarter and be more careful about our solutions. even the smallest mistakes out of 10-page solution sets are corrected.

do professors curve? i don't know. are they human? maybe not. do they care about us? we'll see.

so that's my week. i thought i had done well on those assignments, too. so much work, just for 6/10.

i stepped out of my office tonight for a bit to catch my friend's band play in DC. it was cool, we were watching the game between songs. so was everyone else.

so here's something you can post on your website. i was talking music with jim and we came up with a rating system. you can vote thumbs up, thumbs down, or ehhhhhh. these are 10 kind of random bands.
1. Nirvana (thumbs down)
2. Pink (thumbs down)
3. Led Zepplin (ehhhh)
4. Dashboard Confessional (thumbs up)
5. Pearl Jam (early stuff up, late stuff down, and down on the whole)
6. Billy Joel (thumbs up)
7. Avril Lavigne (ehhhh)
8. Green Day (thumbs up, mainly for old stuff, certainly not time of your life)
9. The Cure (thumbs up)
10. Bon Jovi (thumbs up)

post them on your site if you want to.

today's score: life:3, eric:3. i'm keeping tabs all week on IM. that way, in case i don't talk to you in the next week, you know how it went. i've two homework sets & grading (plus an old homework) due tues, and a homework + old homework due thurs. so it'll be a big push until then. same old story, but that's school for you.

how late is too late to give a present? never, i say.

music: hey mercedes, loses control
quote: martinex gets $50000 fine for throwing down don zimmer. i love baseball.

today we debuted the new worship team at mcf, and it was rockin' awesome. i solidly had a good time. not up to pinewood levels, but close. we've a keyboard player who can blow my socks off, thats for sure.

and then its crunch time on homework again. i forsee this week being the most intense yet. hopefully no all-nighters (sorry mike) but i'm not looking forward to exhaustion and brain freezes.

so with that, i'm off to bed, with an early start tomorrow. i hear the frisbee team did well in rutgers this weekend, hopefully i can make the next 'a' team tournament.

this post really sucked, i'm sorry. and i'll try to reply back to emails soon (i promise).

music: hey merecedes: loses control (out last week!)
quote: "anyway, i'm gonna get some sleep, and prepare for hell." - my classmate dan on IM about twenty seconds ago. my sentiments exactly.

ohio state lost for the first time since jan. 1, 2002. and its about time, they've had seriously too many close calls and could've/should've been beaten a long time ago. but 19 games is pretty sweet, eh?

i spent the weekend thus far at the eastern shore of maryland - its the little piece of land between the chesapeake bay & atlantic ocean. the weather was great, the scenery gorgeous, and the people homely. i was there as part of a retreat for maryland christian fellowship, and it was awesome. great all around. we need spiritual awakening sometimes, a lot of times.

i took some great photos i think, so i'll try to post them later. tomorrow morning's the debut of the worship band so i gots to get to bed to be awake for it! i'm on guitar, for the first time in a band in a while.

music: juliana: understand this is a dream
quote: "hey jim, don't move! kids, come here, look what's climbing on jim!" - jeff, noticing a lizard had climbed up jim's hoodie and was poised to strike, er, jump at any second
