day 2 of "research" consisted of me trying to download and install tcl/tk for a few hours, and eventually just looking through a tutorial on my ibook. i sent an email to my professor crying, "help, where do i start?" its kinda overwhelming right now.

i chilled at 38th street with jim, matt, aaron, heather, alaina, and sylvia for a few hours, it was cool because "i finally get the time to get to know ya" in the words of matthew pryor. and on the way back from alaina's house i totally got pulled over for an illegal right-turn-on-red, but the police office was cool when i told him i wasn't used to the area and didn't see the sign. he saw my ohio plates and let me off, no sweat.

so tomorrow i'm gonna go try to do some more "research" at the office, which is kind of intimidating because the other grad students have lots more important things to do than help me out and i don't want to bug them too much. maybe everything will just work tomorrow.

mike, i kind of envy your musical setup, i was getting stoked about 'garageband' from apple and then i remembered your g5 setup. the new ipods are cool too but still on the pricey side i think.

today i started research which consisted of me listening to my professor explain a few projects, i nodded along, my professor left, i piddled around on a computer for a few hours and went home. the actual project looks pretty sweet but i have no idea where to start. any cs majors know about tcl/tk? or navier-stokes equations? sounds pretty touch, i'm sure it will be. other than my little dab in research, i spent $100 at the grocery and did four loads of laundry. i am now one clean, full dude.

so a little catch-up on the break. i came home, saw my friends and family, and promptly got sick a few days before christmas with a fever and cold. i totally didn't get all my christmas shopping done, but to my defense my mother sternly said, "eric, i don't care if i don't get any presents for christmas, you're not leaving this house until you're well!" so i'm off the hook.

a few days after the holiday the old pinewood crew drove 1500 miles/24 hours to the florida keys where ricky's family have a winter home. i didn't want to go so early because i hadn't seen my friends much due to the dumb fever but the guys wanted to go really badly, so we left on the 27th.

we were only pulled over once on the trip, and got a warning for speeding at that (at 5am on key largo). we went to bed late and woke up late, went fishing everyday and almost died every day with ricky driving the 20 foot boat into 6 foot waves. that boat was made for michigan lakes and maumee rivers, not the ocean. we took in water a lot but rick didn't care much. we didn't do much on the beach because there really wasn't one to speak of; there's a coral reef that kills most of the waves coming in to key west and so the sand isn't deposited except for a few areas.

new year's was spent on key west (rick's house was actually on sugarloaf key) where we watched the conch shell drop at midnight with 45000 of our closest friends. we also caught the ohio state game on key west with alaska justin who happened to be vacationing with his family. i'll have pictures and a much fuller story up later this week. we also shot 60 minutes of video with some excellent karaoke which, unfortunately, will not ever be on the web. ever.

whew.

from maryland to ohio to florida back to maryland, here i am. the year in review is finished through april, and i guess i need to make some top 10 lists and such in the meantime. all i can say about the trip to the florida keys is that, justin, things went down pretty much how we thought they would. i'm sure you'll talk to ben.

i think i'm supposed to start "research" tomorrow, whatever that is, except i'm not sure where and when the said "research" is supposed to start. so i'm going to sleep in and claim ignorance. why? because i just got off a plane and, again, i have a cold and fill pretty horrible. like, my head was spinning while laying down at vero beach this afternoon. weird stuff.

so expect things at this website in the future.
